Portfolio Websites

Client sites

A selection of independent client sites built from the same small, dependable foundation. Each is delivered as plain files, so it loads quickly and does not need extra software or outside scripts running in the background.

The approach

  • Simple by design. Each site is delivered as plain files, so there is no extra software or outside script to keep running.
  • Content that can be reviewed. Copy and page content are kept with the site, so edits can be checked before they go live.
  • Forms without extra software to operate. Contact and newsletter forms use a hosted form service, so there is no server for you to run.
  • Fewer outside services. Fonts and images are served from the site itself, so visitors are not waiting on unrelated services.
  • A shared foundation. Common layout and type choices make future sites faster to deliver without making them feel identical.

Outcome

The sites run at low ongoing hosting cost, with every release checked before it goes live. The selected examples and what each needed are noted below.

Examples

  • Knits By Judy

A single-page site for a Vermont hand knitter and felter, built to be the credible home base she can point to from a craft-show card or a text message. The brief stopped deliberately short of a shop: no prices, cart, inventory, or commission intake, so the page had to lead with the work itself and route interest to a direct inquiry instead. Twelve supplied photographs are prepared for the web so large camera files do not slow the page. Inquiries arrive by email, and the form still works without extra scripts.

  • Lowell Thompson

An independent musician's site, rebuilt as a fast single page that puts photography first and keeps the interface out of its way. The predecessor had drifted: a heavy site with a hosted editor, placeholder content, missing images, and a dependence on outside services to load the page. The rebuild keeps the full-screen opening image legible over photography, hosts its own fonts, and keeps only claims that can be verified, with a hard rule against inventing a single biographical fact.

  • Build, Align, Bloom

A services-and-pricing site for a bookkeeping practice serving creative founders. The problem was voice as much as layout: published pricing is unusual in the sector, so the page had to present three priced services confidently without reading as a commodity rate card, and make the practice's mission and values part of the page rather than footer text. Contact works without extra scripts.
